“Hold on Argentina!”: a new step
He looks at the croissants, hungry. He’s seven years old and he’s with forty children, expecting eagerly to be allowed to get their breakfast. But they have to wait until the official procession arrives to open the community kitchen in 1021 Culpina, in the neighbourhood of Flores.
The day home opens its doors because of the work of the Valencian community, that through the campaign “Hold on Argentina!” contributes with euros to fund the work of some community kitchens and to cooperate with others.
“We’ve opened more than seventy community kitchens throughout the length and breadth of the country, which will allow us to provide food to more than 30,000 people. In order to do that, the valencian Generality is giving us 500,000 euros, in addition to those destined to the campaign “Hold on Argentina!””, said the president of the Generality, José Luis Olivas Martínez, present in our country since the past week.
“Argentina will probably be the country where most of the resources will be destined to, approximately 15 per cent of the 27 million of euros that are destined to cooperation”, commented Olivas Martínez, who one week ago opened the community kitchen in Flores along with Father Angel García, from Mensajeros de la Paz and with the head of the government of Buenos Aires, Anibal Ibarra.
“With the same strength”
The president of the valencian Generality, named guest of honor of the city of Buenos Aires, remarked: “Valencia does not forget the solidarity that Argentina had in the tough moments that Spain had to go through, that is why it responds with the same strength”.
And there are many people that thank for their help. Marina Cruz Medero is 41 years old, has three children- between seven and twelve-, and is currently unemployed. “We need it so much, if we don’t have this, we have to travel to Rivadavia, and that’s really far away”, she said.
Not only will the children have the possibility to get a plate of food, because the day home will open its doors to a hundred people that are 50 years old and over. They will have the possibility to have breakfast, lunch and a snack in the afternoon.
