Mensajeros de la Paz takes more donations to Tucumán
They will open a community kitchen for 2000 children and will hand in medicine to hospitals.
The Spanish priest Angel García, director of the charitable association Mensajeros de la Paz, arrived in the country yesterday and travelled to Tucumán to open a community kitchen for 2000 children and a land destined to welcome poor families during the weekends and to hand in medicine donated to the children hospital and to the maternity of the capital.
Father García will as well stay in the province to celebrate mass in Christmas Eve and spend Christmas with the needy. “People not only appreciate the fact that someone provides them with material things, but also that someone stays there to accompany them. During this visit, we wanted to stay to be with them. Nothing can compare to that”, said the priest to La Nación, before getting on the plane that headed to Tucumán.
The Spanish priest also anticipated that he invited Hilda de Duhalde to participate in the mass, if by that time the First Lady visits the province in the context of the “operativo rescate” (Plan of rescue), proposed by the government to assist children in a state of malnutrition or in risk of malnutrition.
“I’m uncomfortable with politicians, but I’m not their opponent- said the priest to justify the invitation made to the president’s wife-. And I believe that gathering strengths so that others can be happy is one of the greatest things that could happen this Christmas”, he said.
Reequipment
Then, the priest explained that, with three volunteers of the association currently residing in Tucumán, he will be coordinating the work of remodelling and reequipment in one part of the maternity of San Miguel de Tucumán.
“The conditions in which the maternity is working nowadays are inhuman. It is the place where 13,000 children are born each year, and it doesn’t take much to provide them with a decent place. Just a little more cleaning and modernity”, he remarked.
In the maternity, just like in the pediatric hospital “Niño Jesús” (Baby Jesus), García will be delivering donated medicine, brought from Spain yesterday. “And we’ll make sure that the children admitted in the hospital are eating with the contribution we previously made”, he cleared out.
Since last March, eight ships coming from the Iberian Peninsula, transporting food, medicine and clothes, collected by Mensajeros de la Paz, arrived in our country to be delivered to the neediest families in different provinces.
The priest remarked the fact that the association opened community kitchens for children, which take care of the alimentation of 14,000 Argentinean children in Tucumán, Misiones and Entre Ríos.
“And they have food insured for six months, at a cost of one daily peso per children. That is just another contribution of the association, in addition to the donations made by companies and individuals that, through us, also help the Argentinean people”, indicated the priest.
“Even though we’re surrounded by bad news, the good news is that this Christmas the children from Tucumán are starting to smile. Some mothers tell us that their children have already gained a weight of one kilogram and a half , and that means so much to them”, he reminded us.
During this visit, as it has been said, García will also be opening a community kitchen for 2000 children and a complex to receive children with their families and grandparents and to offer them different activities during the weekends, in a land donated by Governor Julio Miranda.
